Fallopian tubes play an important role in women’s health and yet direct assessment of tubal health has been an elusive goal.

The fallopian tubes lay between a woman’s ovaries and her uterus. Obstruction, inflammation, or infection in the tubes, if left undetected and untreated, can lead to a host of conditions including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain and adnexal mass.
Though the cervix and breasts have been closely monitored for decades, fallopian tubes have presented unique challenges. Clinicians have been unable to perform common diagnostic procedures such as biopsy or direct visualization because the tubes are about 1mm in diameter and tortuous.
